New SKF Products, Wheel End Maintenance Demo on Display

SKF used the Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) annual meeting to deliver mobile wheel end maintenance training. Alongside the sessions, the company also put new products on display

The company conducted hands-on sessions as part of its Certified Trouble Free Operation (TFO) training program, focusing on wheel bearing and wheel-end system maintenance. The training covered inspection, installation, lubrication, and failure prevention practices.

Participants in the program worked directly with SKF technical experts, and were able to earn certification tied to maintenance proficiency.

The company said its TFO training program is designed to support uptime and reduce maintenance costs by improving service consistency across fleets. SKF tells us it is planning a broader initiative to bring mobile, on-site training directly to technicians and fleets, with additional sessions planned beyond TMC.

SKF also introduced the Scotseal X-Treme HD seal, designed for heavy-duty and vocational applications such as construction, waste, mining, and forestry.

The seal uses a multi-element design with a patented labyrinth structure. SFK said this is meant to limit contamination and retain lubrication within the wheel-end assembly. SKF said the design is aimed at reducing unplanned maintenance and extending service intervals.

The seal is constructed with HNBRX material for heat resistance and durability. Additionally, the EPDM inner diameter ensures proper seal-to-sleeve positioning. A metal unitizer ring is included to help protect the sealing lip during service.

SKF introduced its Classic Lock spindle nut, designed for Class 7-8 applications and built to meet TMC standards.

The design includes a hardened flange-side face, which the company said improves wear resistance. A keeper ring supports a two-step installation process.

SKF said the spindle nut completes its wheel-end offering, allowing fleets to source multiple components within a single system.
